Microregionalization could be defined as a complex activity of determining appropriate soil and climatic habitats of the vineyards and mapping out of the wine-growing micro-regions and therefore determining the recommended breeding varieties from which to produce a quality wine with designation of origin. By definition designation of origin represents the name of the region or place of origin of the product whose quality or characteristics are due to the geographical environment, including natural and human factors. A brief overview of the micro regions of viticulture in Bulgaria is represented. Southwestern statistical region and especially Blagoevgrad have significant potential for the development of viticulture. Several micro-regions for production of wine with controlled and guaranteed appellation of origin are pointed out - wine with controlled and guaranteed appellation of origin Melnik; wine with controlled and guaranteed appellation of origin Sandanski; wine with controlled and guaranteed appellation of origin Harsovo.
