Резюме / Abstract Abstract: In Bulgaria there is a National agency for evaluation and accreditation of universities and scientific institutes. This agency was established and adopted by the National аssembly in 1995. It assists in improving the quality of higher education through periodic institutional and programmatic evaluation and accreditation of higher education institutions in Bulgaria. Through the Higher Education Act, the Agency encourages universities and research institutes to maintain and enhance the quality of education and research. The Evaluation and Accreditation Agency is affiliated with the European Network of National Educational Systems. One of the NAEA's first international appearances was the signing of a framework agreement for co-operation with the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education - ARACIS and the implementation of the first-ever joint evaluation procedure for doctoral studies in Technical University - Sofia and Polytechnic University - Bucharest, Romania, from a joint Bulgarian-Romanian expert group.
