Management of Antigonus II Gonatas in Macedonia is a turning point in its historical development in the era of Hellenism. He was able to lead the country out of the ongoing internal crisis in decades and recover its international prestige. It reverts back to hegemony in the Balkans and restores its status as one of the most powerful countries in the Eastern Mediterranean. This process is not easy and lasts nearly four decades in which he actively used his undoubted talent of statesman and politician, but also managed to win the love and respect for Macedonia due to its moderate and responsible management. That his moderation and loyalty to his countrymen is largely the result of philosophical education he received in his youth.
Antigonus II Gonatas is the true founder of the Antigonid dynasty, not his father or his grandfather. His office is dotted with great success and terrible failures, but his greatest contribution to Macedonia, although suffered defeats and setbacks did not give up its main objective the stabilization and consolidation of the Macedonian state. It is basileus that despite distrust of their compatriots managed to put their country of permanent crisis and turn it into one of the leading Hellenistic countries. The last twenty years of his rule despite a number of setbacks in foreign policy have been extremely successful in domestic politics. During these years he was able to stabilize the military-administrative organization of their homeland. His heirs receive a strong and stable country, which at the end of III - beginning of II c. BC even perceived by some as the most powerful Hellenistic state. This rise of Ancient Macedonia would be impossible without the consistent and purposeful policy of Antigonus II Gonatas under its domestic consolidation and strengthening.
